We are together. Released
from the tug of caregiving
we breathe freely
the same air.
Released from the tug
of making a living
we turn to life itself.
Our bodies begin to slow
but our spirits’ vibrations
hum with increasing vitality.
We shelter our offspring
and their families
from aloneness.
The flow of our strength
nourishes them. They rely
on our strong arms.
We face the future
with concern and curiosity.
We eat well--and others do not.
We dwell in comfort--but others do not.
What will we do as we take
our place on this planet?
